DPS’ Best Win Montgomery’s Best Awards

Reggie has been at the core of nearly every major new initiative or problem solving effort undertaken by DPS. He put in place a call center concept which improved the customer’s ability to go directly to a call taker with expertise in the area of the inquiry. The concept of taking a project and making it a “case” with a point person on staff has saved countless hours and tax payer dollars while allowing the projects to move forward within regulatory constraints. Silver Spring and Wheaton redevelopment projects have been supported by the Green Tape Program with DED under Reggie’s casework management concept. Reggie is highly regarded by every County department that coordinates programs with DPS, and is respected by industry and customer stakeholders.

The work carried out under Rick’s direction substantially impacts the quality of life for Montgomery County residents and the overall quality of watersheds within Montgomery County. In 2003, Rick was honored with the “Quality of Life Award” presented by the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association. In 2008, Rick was recognized by the Montgomery County Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors with the 2008 Contribution to Agriculture Award. Montgomery County’s nationally-recognized storm water management Best Management Practices (BMPs) were developed under Rick’s direction and served as the model for BMPs later adopted as standards by the State of Maryland.

Joe Cheung and Sarah Navid received the partnership award for their work on the Pedestrian Safety Initiative. This has been one of the County Executive’s key initiatives: to improve pedestrian safety and mobility by transforming the County into a truly walkable community. This is a vision to create a community where people of all ages and abilities can walk, bike, use transit, or travel by motor vehicle safely and comfortably in a pedestrian-friendly environment. Joe and Sarah’s involvement on the Pedestrian Safety Committee has helped in seeing this vision accomplished.
